Premiere of the theatre play „SEAGULL“by А.P.Chekhov

“This lake attracts me, like a seagull”.

“It was like I woke up and all of sudden it seemed like the lake had dried out”.

The theatre play explores the role of the lake and nature in correlation with people’s lives. “The Seagull” presents an eco-system in which the lake, human relations, love, life and the wild are intertwined and fragile.

A young man lives by the lake, isolated and provincial. He dreams of being an artist. The woman he loves drams of being an actress. His mother is a famous actress. Her lover is a famous writer. This fantastic, gentle play leads us into the world of art, love, dream of fame and the painful reality of life.

Chekhov calls the play a comedy, but the end of it is tragical with the death of Kostya. The play poses the question of how the loss could have been prevented. Could we take batter care of people and the nature?

The actors of the National theatre in Bitola bring “The Seagull” here and now, with the lake as the centre of it all, subtly affecting the relationships that revolve around it.

The magical play by Chekhov is a love letter to life, bringing our consciousness to the brink of fragility and need of care.
