Renowned artists, Serbian cellist Dragan Đorđević and Macedonian pianist Dino Imeri, intertwined their musical sensibilities in a truly enjoyable performance for the audience at the 64th “Ohrid Summer” festival last night.
In the church “St. Sophia,” Imeri and Đorđević presented a specially curated repertoire for this festival evening. Cellist Dragan Đorđević Suzuki returned to the concert stage of “Ohrid Summer” after nearly two decades, having had one of his most significant career concerts there.
“The repertoire was diverse, challenging for the performers, and interesting for the audience. We started with Beethoven’s variations, followed by Schnittke’s ‘Suite in the Old Style,’ which is a very interesting piece and not often performed, here arranged for cello and piano. We played the delicate but always beautiful ‘Adagio and Allegro’ by Schumann and finished with Rachmaninoff’s ‘Sonata for Cello and Piano,'” said cellist Đorđević.
This was the first collaboration between the two artists, virtuosos of their instruments, and audience favorites.
“The program was chosen by colleague Dragan, and it incorporates the most virtuosic, interesting, and musically profound elements, both for the piano and the cello. The first part reflected this, and the second part was our approach to music-making in an ensemble where no participant can be superior or subordinate. It is about constant interaction in each of the pieces performed, and I think the audience felt that symbiosis,” emphasized pianist and professor Dino Imeri.
Imeri and Đorđević have already discussed future collaborations, which they consider very natural given their musical compatibility and personal chemistry, both of which are crucial for joint music-making.
