The traditional European Union night at the “Ohrid Summer” festival will feature a concert by Belgian cellist Camille Thomas and French pianist Julien Brocal tonight at 9 PM in the Church of “Saint Sophia.”
Camille Thomas is an exciting cellist whose vibrant personality shines through the music she performs. Camille believes that music has the power to bring people together and inspire, regardless of their cultural differences.
The 2023/2024 season is intense for her, with performances at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, recitals in Duszniki, Biarritz, and the “Kronberg” festival. She will perform with the National Orchestra in the USA under the baton of conductor Gustavo Gimeno, and as a resident artist with the Armenian State Orchestra, she will have four performances under the direction of Sergey Smbatyan. She will also be a soloist with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, the orchestras in Aachen and Stuttgart, as well as with the South Netherlands Philharmonic.
French pianist Julien Brocal was named the BBC Music Magazine’s Discovery of the Year in 2018, and since then, he has performed in renowned concert halls around the world. He has released several albums, one dedicated to Chopin and another to Ravel and Mompou, as well as a trilogy with cellist Camille Thomas dedicated to Chopin.
This season, Brocal is set to release a new album titled “Here,” featuring his original compositions, along with another release with Camille Thomas, with whom he also performs at numerous concerts. In addition to her, he collaborates with violinist Daniel Hope and Rosanne Philippens.
Brocal combines his traditional concert career with work in his studio called “Musical Garden,” a creative ecosystem that reflects the principles of permaculture, providing space for live performances, recordings, and residencies.
