Quintet PILEKADONE

  Mila Pavlova-flute, Valentin Metodiev-oboe, Venelin Piperov-clarinet, Yasen Teodosiev-horn, Evgeniy Tonevbassoon   The woodwind quintet Pilekadone is a formation with history. The attractive appearances when its members were still teenagers, the sound of that name-what does it mean, has it anything to do with Charlie Parker’s nickname Yard bird – remains one of the provocative mysteries around Pilekadone. Each of the members of the quintet has an active career as a soloist, as well as an orchestra member of the elite Bulgarian orchestras Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra, Classic FM Radio Orchestra. Pilekadone is proud winner of the prestigious award of the Union of the Bulgarian musicians and dancers Golden Lyre for excellence in the performing arts. The quintet participates in the most renowned festivals in Bulgaria and abroad. Some of the best contemporary Bulgarian composers, among whom the famous GRAMMY nominated Dobrinka Tabakova, create and dedicate works especially to the quintet. Pilekadone’s projects extend beyond the traditional performance of the classical repertoire, including in some cases multimedia and conceptual performances with the participation of actors, the Sofia Boys Choir etc. Among the new concert partners of PILEKADONE Quintet is the world renowned concertmaster of the famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Albena Danailova. In 2019 the Bulgarian National Television presented a film – concert featuring quintet PILEKADONE. Mila Pavlova-flute Flutist Mila Pavlova graduated from the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” and is a winner of numerous competitions including the First prize at the 10th National competition for singers and instrumentalists “Svetoslav Obretenov”, two first prizes from “Golden Diana” competition for chamber music and Special prize and golden medal from International competition in Neerprelt – Belgium.  In 1997 she specializes in Paris in the class of the famous French flute players Loik Poulain and Alain Marion at the Paris Conservatoire. As a soloist she has played with renowned Bulgarian ensembles and from 2003 Pavlova works as flutist in the orchestra of Classic FM radio. Her solo CD “Messages” (2011) is produced by Association of the Bulgarian Composers. Mila Pavlova is the founder of the International Festival “Balabanov’s House Music Days”, which started in 2010 in the Old Town of Plovdiv. The Festival was  awarded the prize “Musical project of the year” by the Bulgarian National Radio and Mila Pavlova herself  is winner of the award ”Musical manager of the year” in 2013 and the prestigious “Plovdiv” award  for music and art in 2014. Valentin Metodiev-oboe Valentin Metodiev graduated from the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” and as a member of wind trio and quintet he is the winner of two first prizes at the “Golden Diana” chamber music competition in 1987 and 1989. In 1989 he won special prize and golden medal from the International competition in Neerprelt – Belgium.  Valentin Metodiev is the principal oboist of the Sofia National Philharmonic Orchestra. He frequently performs as a soloist and principal oboe in various Bulgarian orchestras as well as in various chamber music ensembles. Venelin Piperov-clarinet Venelin Piperov graduated from the National Music School “Lyubomir Pipkov” and the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov”. He continued his education in Munich, Germany, during which time he performed a lot of solo concerts and also worked as a clarinet teacher. In 2011 he returned to Bulgaria which led to the renewal of “Pilekadone” quintet. He is also member of the popular “Yotzov Clarinet Sextet”. Yasen Teodosiev -french horn A graduate of the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” in the class of prof. Vladislav Grigorov, Yasen Teodosiev works as principal hornist at the Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra, as well as in the Classic FM Orchestra. As a soloist he plays with the Bulgarian National Radio, Sofia Symphony Orchestra, Thessaloniki National Orchestra, “Sofia soloists” chamber ensemble, Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, Varna Philharmonic Orchestra and many others.  He is also member of other chamber formations with which he has numerous concerts worldwide. From March 2013 Yasen Theodosiev is Professor at the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, where he received his PhD in 2012. Evgeniy Tonev-bassoon Evgeniy Tonev graduated from National Music School “Dobrin Petkov” – Plovdiv in 1988 and the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” in 1995 in the class of outstanding bassoon player Prof. Marin Valchanov. He has performed numerous solo and chamber recordings for the Bulgarian National Radio, the Bulgarian National TV, and Classic FM Radio etc. Evegeniy Tonev has played as soloist of the Orchestra of the Academy of Music “Prof. P. Vladigerov “- Sofia. Since 1993 he is permanent member of the Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra.
