Elena Papandreou’s guitar chords will resonate in “St. Sophia”

Guitarist Elena Papandreou from Greece will hold an all-night concert tonight as part of the Ohrid Summer Festival music program.

Papandreou, who the US daily Washington Post would call a “guitar poet,” was born in Athens in 1966. He studies guitar under the guidance of Evangelos Budonis and Oscar Gillia. He also works with Gordon Krosky at the British Council’s Royal College of Music in England funded by the British Council. Attends master classes led by Alirio Diaz, Julian Brim, Leo Brauer and Ruggero Kjesa. He has won three international competitions: “Maria Callas” (Greece, 1984), “Garriano” (Italy, 1985) and “Alessandria” (Italy, 1985), and holds the second prize and the Naxos Foundation competition. of the guitarists of America in 1995. He is currently working with Swedish publishing house BIS, and in 1992 he was awarded the Spiros Motsenigos Academy Award by the Academy of Athens, a significant award given every two years to exceptional musicians.

Papandreou performs in more than 40 countries in Europe, North and South America, and as one of the artists of the New Concert Program of the European Concert Hall Association, he has the opportunity to perform in the most prestigious concert halls in Europe: “Musikfraine” in Vienna , The Cologne Philharmonic, the Symphony Hall in Birmingham and the Athens Concert Hall. She also performs at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. In 1998 he debuted at Carnegie Hall in New York. He has collaborated with renowned musicians including guitarists: Oscar Gillia, Alario Diaz, Roland Dianens, Nikita Koshkin, Evangelos Budounis, violinist Leonidas Kavakos and cellist Leonid Gorohov. Papandreou has also performed as a soloist with orchestras in Greece, Italy, Romania, Turkey, Mexico and Singapore. Her composers include Roland Diane, Nikita Koshkin, Nikos Mamangakis, Giorgos Koumendakis and Evangelos Budounis, and is currently a professor at the University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

The concert will be held at St. Sophia Church at 9 pm.
