Following the masterful performance by world-renowned violinist Julian Rachlin and the Macedonian Philharmonic, which officially opened the 64th edition of the “Ohrid Summer” festival, the musical program continues tonight with a concert by Gerhard Reichenbach, one of Germany’s leading classical guitarists.
The concert will take place at the Church of “Saint Sophia” starting at 9 PM.
Reichenbach made his solo debut in 1980 in Düsseldorf, and first appeared on the international scene in 1990 at the Guitar Festival in Volos, Greece. Since then, for more than 40 years, he has given concerts as a soloist, with orchestras, and at numerous festivals, performing on stages such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the International House of Music in Moscow.
This artist’s repertoire includes more than 35 recitals and numerous guitar and orchestra concerts. His transcriptions for guitar of works by Scarlatti, and especially those of Bach, place him at the forefront of interpreters of Bach’s works for guitar on a global scale.
In recent decades, Reichenbach has been particularly active in the field of contemporary music for classical guitar, performing works specially written for him such as the “Balkan Sonata” by Rossen Balkanski, “12 Concert Studies Op. 48” by Bak Wolters, and pieces by Atanas Ourkouzounov. Besides his concert activities, he is a guitar professor, frequently serves on competition juries, and is dedicated to working on new editions of the classical guitar repertoire.
