“Ohrid Summer,” with the support of the Italian Embassy in Macedonia, will host an Italian evening at the festival tonight. The concert will be performed by the baroque ensemble “Mare Nostrum” in the “Saint Sophia” church, starting at 9 PM.
The festival stage will feature one of the most esteemed young Italian countertenors, Danilo Pastore, baritone Masashi Tomosugi, tenor Angelo Testori, soprano Giulia Bolcato, as well as Andrea De Carlo, a conductor and artist who plays the viola da gamba.
The “Mare Nostrum” ensemble, founded in Rome by conductor and artistic director Andrea De Carlo, is considered one of the most original and surprising baroque ensembles dedicated to performing “old” music with a particular affinity for music by Italian composers, especially the operas of Alessandro Stradella. Following their highly acclaimed and award-winning recordings, the “Stradella” project was born in 2013, a collection of CDs with the complete works of this composer recorded for the Arcana label. All individual CDs (serenades, operas, and oratorios) receive excellent reviews and are recognized by the international music community.
Maestro De Carlo presents his innovative and exploratory approach at numerous seminars, masterclasses, and conferences, and it will soon be published in print. The ensemble approaches their interpretations with thorough and dedicated musicological research, resulting in new printed editions of previously unknown musical material, as well as critical editions of already published musical works.
