Tonight, the 64th “Ohrid Summer” continues with a concert by the piano duo Marija Gjosevska and Slavica Mitsovska-Smilevska. The performance will take place at the Church of St. Sophia, starting at 9 PM.
Marija Gjosevska is one of the most prominent pianists in North Macedonia. She completed her undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies at the Faculty of Music in Skopje under the guidance of the renowned pianist and pedagogue, Prof. Boris Romanov. Gjosevska has received numerous awards and recognitions at both national and international competitions. She performs as a soloist and chamber musician at prestigious festivals in North Macedonia and abroad in countries such as the USA, England, France, Austria, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Turkey, among others.
She has performed as a soloist with the Macedonian Philharmonic and notable concerts with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of the Music Youth of Macedonia, and the festival orchestra of “Ohrid Summer,” collaborating with many domestic and international conductors. Gjosevska frequently performs as a chamber musician and piano collaborator with prominent instrumentalists. She is one of the Macedonian participants in the project “Piano – Reflection of European Culture,” performing concerts in five countries: France, Austria, Poland, Moldova, and North Macedonia.
Marija Gjosevska is a full professor and head of the Department of Keyboard Instruments and Harp, as well as the head of the third cycle – doctoral studies in musical interpretation and composition at the Faculty of Music, University of “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje.
Slavica Mitsovska-Smilevska completed her primary and secondary music education at the “Ilija Nikolovski-Luj” Music and Ballet Center in Skopje, under the tutelage of Prof. J. Mitrevska and Prof. M. Vlaisavljević. She graduated from the piano department at the Music Academy in Sofia, in the class of Prof. Zheni Zaharieva, where she also obtained her master’s degree in 2004. In 2019, she completed her doctoral studies at the Faculty of Music in Skopje under the mentorship of Prof. Zaharieva. Mitsovska-Smilevska has attended numerous seminars with distinguished professors and pedagogues and has participated in many national and international competitions, winning several awards.
She has given concerts as a soloist, chamber performer, and accompanist in North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Austria, Malaysia, and France. Currently, she works as a full professor of piano at the “Ilija Nikolovski-Luj” Music and Ballet Center in Skopje.
The concert promises to be a captivating evening showcasing the exceptional talent of these two pianists at one of North Macedonia’s most renowned cultural festivals.
