Last evening, the Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra graced the 64th “Ohrid Summer” festival with a concert held in the vestibule of the “St. Sophia” church. The soloist of the evening was the renowned Macedonian pianist Nina Kostova, who performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467.
“This was my first performance with the Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra. They are truly wonderful, they came prepared, and with just one rehearsal, we managed to achieve the maximum. The conductor is also excellent and open to collaboration, and the organization of ‘Ohrid Summer,’ as always, is at the highest level,” said Kostova.
Last night’s performance at “Ohrid Summer” was dedicated by pianist Kostova to her father, the great Macedonian composer Kire Kostov, who passed away exactly a year ago, on July 27.
Starting from the 2023/2024 season, the Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra is led by the renowned French conductor of Montenegrin origin, Marc Korovich. The orchestra’s repertoire includes works from all styles and music from the Baroque era to contemporary pieces. The orchestra performs concerts with epochal works from the world’s musical treasury that represent historical moments in Montenegro’s musical life. Additionally, works by Montenegrin composers such as Ivan Brkanović, Ilija Lakušić, Borislav Tamindžić, Žarko Mirković, Nina Perović, Aleksandar Perunović, and Senad Gačević, who are significant in Montenegro’s musical history and present, are regularly featured.
