The Chamber Orchestra of the Macedonian Music Youth “Sasha Nikolovski-Gjumar” will hold a full-length concert tonight as part of the classical music repertoire of the 64th “Ohrid Summer.” The concert will take place at the Church of “Saint Sophia” at the standard festival time of 9 PM. The orchestra will be conducted by Ivan Eminović, with violinist Simeon Gošev and cellist Enis Aji as soloists for the evening.
The Chamber Orchestra of the Macedonian Music Youth was founded 38 years ago as the first segment of the Summer Music Camp of the MMM in Ohrid in 1986. Over 400 young musicians have been part of this unique ensemble. Conductors and artistic directors of the orchestra have included: F. Muratovski, G. Korunovski, S. Nikolovski-Gjumar, V. Nikolovski-Gjumar, M. Spasov, B. Canev, A. Remerajt, B. Chadlovska, O. Kondratenko, Misha Katz, Gianluca Martinenghi, and Elena Mitrevska. As recognition for its achievements, in 1995, the orchestra was invited to perform in Budapest on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the World Federation of Youth Music.
The orchestra has performed more than 100 concerts, receiving numerous positive reviews and recognitions. Its repertoire includes works from world classics as well as contemporary Macedonian composers. For 38 years, the final concert of the orchestra’s summer session has been part of the “Ohrid Summer” festival program, and in recent years, it has also participated in the “Skopje Summer” and “Bitola Summer” festivals. Since 2018, the orchestra bears the name of Macedonian conductor Sasha Nikolovski-Gjumar.
