The traditional Czech evening at the “Ohrid Summer” festival, supported by the Czech Embassy in Macedonia, will feature a full-length concert by Trio “Halír” tonight at 9 PM in the Church of “Saint Sophia.”
Formed in 2016 to honor the memory of the Czech virtuoso violinist Karel Halír (1859-1909), Trio “Halír” currently consists of Spanish violinist Eduardo García Salas (residing in Prague), Slovak cellist Jana Podolská, and Czech pianist Barbora K. Sejáková. All members are award winners of international competitions.
The trio performs at festivals in Spain (Mahón, Córdoba, Tarragona, Cádiz) as well as in various cities in the Czech Republic, Germany, and other countries, consistently receiving positive reviews for their performances. In 2017, the trio recorded their first album “Granados-Dvořák” at the Auditorium in Lleida (Spain) for the Czech label “ArcoDiva” in collaboration with “Naxos.” The CD features Piano Trio Op. 50 by Granados and Piano Trio Op. 65 by Antonín Dvořák. The latter is one of the most significant chamber works by Dvořák, premiered in Germany in Mannheim in 1883 by Karel Halír. The trio’s next album again references the premiere of a trio piece by Paul Juon, performed by Karel Halír in 1902, as well as Piano Trio Op. 50 by P. I. Tchaikovsky, which this legendary violinist performed in Leipzig in 1888 in the presence of the composer himself.
