The music program of the “Ohrid Summer” festival continues tonight with a concert by pianist Alexey Botvinov, violinist Sebastian Bohren, and cellist Patrick Demenga. They will perform as part of the Swiss Evening of the festival, at the Church of St. Sophia, starting at 9:00 PM.
Alexey Botvinov is an exceptional pianist, musical innovator, and producer. He is one of the most significant Ukrainian pianists and is considered one of the best interpreters of Sergey Rachmaninoff’s music. Botvinov is also the only pianist in the world who has performed Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” on stage more than 300 times.
Alexey Botvinov has performed in more than 46 countries worldwide, with recent performances including concerts at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, the “Gewandhaus” in Leipzig, the “Tonhalle” in Zurich, the Philharmonic Hall in Hamburg, the “Beethoven House” in Bonn, and many others.
Sebastian Bohren is a violinist who approaches his repertoire carefully, often selecting works from the Classical and Romantic eras, 20th-century pieces, and new, contemporary compositions. In 2022, the Swiss Foundation for Violin Schools awarded him the “Golden Bow” prize, and the German press describes him as “one of the most serious and direct musicians of his generation.”
Cellist Patrick Demenga was born in 1962 and studied at the conservatories in Bern and Cologne with Boris Pergamenschikov and Harvey Shapiro in New York. Demenga regularly performs at the most renowned festivals and music centers across Europe, South Africa, the USA, South America, Australia, and Asia.
