The traditional Polish evening at the “Ohrid Summer” festival last night under the arches of the church “St. Sophia” featured a four-hand piano concert with the artists Anna Miernik and Joanna Sochacka.
The repertoire included carefully selected compositions by Robert Schumann, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and the Polish composer Jan Paderewski. The beatiful evening was rounded off with the famous composition “Libertango” by Astor Piazzolla.
Pianist Joanna Sochacka has been described by critics as an artist who “not only plays but lives in the music.” She is a pianist who explores sound worlds with intelligence and pianistic culture.
– “We made an effort to choose pieces that we love, but also pieces that are interesting to the audience. Since we are performing at the Polish evening of the festival, we wanted to include a Polish composer, which is why we added Paderewski,” said pianist Sochacka, who is performing at the “Ohrid Summer” festival for the first time.
Pianist Anna Miernik is performing in front of the festival audience for the second time and says that every visit is a great pleasure for her.
– “As I remember from the last time, the church has incredible acoustics, especially for piano. While we were rehearsing in the church, tourist groups would enter, and through their guides, I had the opportunity to learn more about the local history. Places like the church ‘St. Sophia,’ combined with the type of work, can be very inspiring for an artist.”
For many years, “Ohrid Summer,” together with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland and the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Ohrid, has been organizing a Polish evening as part of the festival program, featuring performances and concerts by renowned artists and musicians from Poland.
