Meeting with Montenegrin classical music composed and performed by guitarists Bulatovic и and Nikcevic
The Montenegrin guitar duo Srdjan Bulatovic and Darko Nikcevic performed last night as part of the music program of the Ohrid Summer Festival, holding an all-night concert at the St. Sophia Church.
The two internationally acclaimed guitarists presented their original works created over the past three decades and released on sound carriers.
– We have performed compositions that the two of us have composed and that we have been performing for decades in Europe and around the world. Some of the compositions are inspired by the traditional music of Montenegro, and the others are inspired by the geography of our Balkans. The program included several compositions that should be released next year for our third CD, said flamenco guitarist Darko Nikcevic.
According to him, from the performance of one guitar, the performances with two guitars are better because, as he said, it is a mutual complement and presentation of the previous techniques and experiences of two artists.
– We have been playing together for 30 years and this is our fourth concert in the country, but never in Ohrid. From one guitar, two guitars are more beautiful. We are constantly updating. My colleague Srѓаan is a doctor of classical guitar, I am a flamenco guitarist and together we apply everything we have known and acquired for decades. “We use all the experiences and techniques we have gained to express our music in the best way and to create an authentic expression like a guitar duo,” said Nikcevic.
The Montenegrin duo Bulatovic-Nikcevic this year marks the three-decade anniversary of the first joint concert.
– This year we celebrate the jubilee, 30 years since our first joint concert. It is a long way we went through, where we listened to what to do, where to move. We started with the performance of other people’s works in the field of classical guitar and flamenco guitar, but then with the synergy and experiences we had gained separately, but also with the courage to dive in some other directions, we came to something that today is the most valuable – our own music. We are first authors and then performers of our own music, added Bulatovic.
The music of this duo is a fusion of Mediterranean beauty and mysticism of the Orient that took the two artists to the world’s most prestigious concert halls.
Montenegrin folklore is our anchor. It is a country from which we leave the world and to which we return, the music that is in our genes and with which we grew up. It all influenced us to start writing our own music and for ten years now we have been presenting ourselves exclusively with our own music. That original music took us all over the world, twice to the famous New York Concert Hall Carnegie Hall and connected us with the great publisher Naxus Records, said guitarist Bulatovic.
In April 2022, the new CD of the Montenegrin duo Bulatovic-Nikcevic should be released with 14 new songs. Apart from the physical and electronic music, music notes will be offered for all compositions, so that the compositions of these two Montenegrin artists will be available for guitarists who want to perform their music.
