The production “One man theatre”-Skopje, a continuation of the production “Theatre and film-BM” founded in 2001 by Bajrush Mjaku has to date created a number of theatre productions of high artistic quality such as “The diary of a madman” by Gogol, “The Father” by Strindberg, “Uncle Vanya” by Chekhov, the TV films “My father’s books” by Luan Starova as well as the mega-project “Peer Gynt” by Ibsen a co-production with the Prishtina National Theatre, the Albanian theatre in Skopje and the “Ibsen Award” from Norway. Other productions include “Socrate’s defense” by Plato, Ibsen’s “Enemy of the people” and Matej Visniec’s “Hiring a clown”. These plays have been presented outside of the borders of N. Macedonia in Paris, Vienna, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiyev, Istanbul, Adana, Chisinau, Skien, Ulan Bator, New York etc which makes the independent production One man’s theatre, one of the most productive independent theatres in N. Macedonia.
The founder of the production, Bajrush Mjaku together with the director Ivan Popovski and a team of selected artists and impresive set design create the play “The Father” by Florian Zeller. Performing the title role, also is a conclusion of Bajrush Mjaku’s 53 year long stage career.
Bajrush Mjaku himself acknowledges that it was “a painful decision” to take on the role and decide his long and fruitful stage career. The role of the father in the play depicts a man in his old age suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Apart from performing a worthy piece of drama, the play also tackles a very sensitive subject that is the Alzheimer’s disease that is affecting many indivudials and their families world-wide.
Ivan Popovski is a macedonian stage director of the “russian school” who lives and works in Moscow over two decades. Born n 1969 in Skopje he starts his studies at the State institute for dramatic arts (GITIS) in 1988 and graduates in 1993 from the class of the renowned director Pyotr Naumovich Fomenko. In his third year of studies in 1991, Popovski directs the play “Adventure” on texts by Marina Tsvetaeva that is set in the hallways of the GITIS that wins him the prize “Higlight of the seaso” awarded by the moscow critics. “Adventure” also led to the formation of the theatre trouppe “Workshop of P. N. Fomenko” which has performed all over Russia and Europe with Ivan Popovski being one of the founders and key directors. In 2007 with a decree by the President of Republic of Macedonia, Ivan Popovski is named honorary ambasador of culture in Russia, and the year after President D. Medvedev awards Popovski with the “Pushkin medal” for special achievements in strenghtening the russian-macedonian relations and populartization of the russian culture and language.
