“Teatro alla moda” baroque ensemble, The Netherlands

Taking its name from the treatise by Benedetto Marcello (written in 1720), “Teatro alla moda” devotes itself to the historically informed performance of baroque music. The members of this ensemble come from four different cultural environments, but found their unified musical language in The Netherlands, during their studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Combining virtuosity and thorough study of the authentic performance practice of the baroque period, the musicians explore and present repertoire for different chamber music combinations on historical copies of violin, recorder, oboe, viola da gamba and harpsichord, playing pieces from the very early baroque up to the birth of the classical musical style. “Teatro alla moda” performs regularly in Holland, and already had its international debut in music festivals in Iceland, France, Portugal and Macedonia.   Lilia Slavny – baroque violin Lilia Slavny was born in Moscow and started her education in her hometown continuing to earn degrees in Jerusalem and the Netherlands under Elizabet Wallfish. During her musical career, she performed with distinguished musicians such as James Bowman, Maggie Cole, Antonie Ruley, Shalev Ad-El, Ton Koopman, Alfredo Bernardini, Enrico Onofri, Philippe Jaroussky, Sandrine Piau, and many others. She had played in many leading early music festivals like Utrecht Early Music Festival, Bachfest Leipzig, Bodenseefestival, Breziče (Slovenia), Festival di Cremona, Donau Festwochen etc and has collaborated with renowned baroque ensembles including English Baroque Soloists, Harmonie Universelle, Gabrieli Consort, Dunedin Consort and De Nederlandse Bachvereniging. She takes part in the productions of Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra conducted by Ton Koopman and she is a permanent member of the Parisian orchestra Le Cercle de l’Harmonie.   Diego Nadra – baroque oboe Diego Nadra began his studies on recorder and oboe in his native Argentina. Since 1995 he has specialised in the baroque oboe. In 1997 he moved to Holland to study baroque oboe at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He has collaborated with some of the most significant baroque ensembles in Europe including Musica Antiqua Köln, De Nederlandse Bach Vereniging, Das Kleine Konzert (Germany), Concerto Köln, Swiss Baroque Soloists, Irish Baroque Orchestra, Les Musicien du Louvre Grenoble, Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Copenhagen and many more. He has performed and recorded all over the European Union, Syria, Russia, Israel, USA, Japan, Turkey, Iceland, Brazil, South Korea and Argentina.   Joshua Cheatham – viola da gamba Josh Cheatham studied viola da gamba in Holland, after completing his double bass studies with Edgar Meyer at Vanderbilt University. He was awarded a master’s Diploma from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 2003, and now teaches viola da gamba at the Utrecht Conservatory. He is the recipient of the 2006 Capriccio Stravagante Prize, founded in 1998 to recognize and support exceptional individuality and talent in the fields of Renaissance and Baroque music. He can also be heard in performances with numerous other ensembles including Ensemble Pygmalion, Vox Luminis, Hathor Consort and others.   Cvetanka Sozovska – harpsichord Cvetanka Sozovska graduated from the class of Russian pianist and organist Boris Romanov in her native city Skopje, followed by further specialization on the harpsichord in The Hague, The Netherlands, where she obtained her Bachelor and master’s degrees at the Royal Conservatory. As a soloist and chamber musician on both the piano and the harpsichord, Cvetanka has performed concerts all over Europe and in South Korea. Cvetanka played in the Summer Festival at Casa de Mateus, Portugal in 2004, and toured with Barokopera Amsterdam through Bretagne, France, as well as in The Netherlands. In the summer of 2009, she taught harpsichord and basso continuo at the Early music course in Burgos, Spain and has performed with the Orquesta de Cadaquez in Spain with Sir Neville Mariner as conductor. Under the leadership of Frans Bruggen of the Orchestra of the 18th century and the dance company Leine en Roebana with whom she toured in Poland, the Netherlands and France. Cvetanka currently lives and works in The Hague as teacher, choir conductor and performer. She was the accompanist for the Early Music Department at the Utrecht Conservatory from 2006 until 2016. She is also the harpsichord teacher at the Utrechtse Muziekschool.
