The Chamber Orchestra of the Macedonian Music Youth will perform tonight at the Ohrid Summer Festival.
The concert will be held in the church “St. Sophia” starting at 8 pm and 30 minutes. Under the baton of Gianluca Martenengi will be performed works by B. Bretin, R. Shhedrin, G. F. Hendl, VA Mozart, and A. Shnitke.
The MMY Chamber Orchestra has existed for more than 30 years. It was founded as the first segment of the Summer Music Camp of MMY in 1986 in Ohrid. This ensemble is the first and only one of its kind in the region of Southeast Europe. More than 300 young musicians – mostly students from FMU-Skopje, but also guests, young musicians from other countries – participated in the past. With its music throughout this period, it has been imposed on the music public not only as a necessity, but also as a performing composition with highly professional qualities.
The orchestra has performed over 90 concerts, receiving rave reviews, but also national awards and awards. Besides the classical repertoire, the orchestra performs works by contemporary as well as by Macedonian authors. There have been more TV and radio pictures as well as own production discs. More than 30 years ago, the closing concert of the Summer Session is a permanent part of the Ohrid Summer Festival program, and in the last 10 years at the “Skopsko Summer” and “Bitholsko Summer” festivals. The Macedonian Musical Youth Chamber Orchestra devotes a concert to the longtime artistic director and conductor of the orchestra, prematurely deceased Sasha Nikolovski – Ѓумар.
