“Profundis” and maestra Dashikj with a brilliant artistic creation under the arches of St Sophia

Outstanding Macedonian artists united in the chamber ensemble “Profundus” yesterday evening had a concert in front of the numerous audience at Ohrid Summer Festival. Soloists at the concert were Anna Kondratenko and Vladimir Kostov, as well as Petar Makarievski playing the prepared piano. The amazing evening under the arches of the acoustic St Sophia was conducted by maestra Gjurgjica Dashikj, who is an artistic manager and conductor, but also the founder of this chamber ensemble.

– Chamber Orchestra “Profundis” is a brilliant ensemble consisting of high professionals, concert-masters and leaders in both Macedonian national orchestras, the National Opera and Ballet and the National Philharmonic Orchestra. The pleasure to work with them is immense, and the artistic creation is always on a high level, – says Dashikj.

The repertoire yesterday evening included pieces of the “iron” repertoire, the “Chamber Symphony by Shostakovic and “Tabula Rasa for two violins, prepared piano and string orchestra” by Alvo Pärt. The second composition is a special piece performed in Macedonia for its first time. Prepared piano means a piano that has been altered to sound like a church bell, – explained maestra Dashikj.

According to her, this week for the artists from “Profundis” is a week of artistic creation because these two days they are having a mini tour in Italy. In October they are going to give a concert on Belgrade together with the Belgrade Chamber Orchestra. The chamber orchestra “Profundis” has existed for three years and its objectives are to promote the quality and uniqueness of expression with a special accent on the originality of all concert performances. It consists of part of the most renown Macedonian instrumentalists from both Macedonian national orchestras, the National Opera and Ballet and the National Philharmonic Orchestra. Besides the classical repertoire, the chamber orchestra “Profundis” strives towards development of alternative ways of presentation, such as digital concerts and use of new technologies.
